Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland starting from Tryptophan , an essential amino acid, that is, it belongs to that particular family of amino acids that must be taken through the diet because we are unable to synthesize them endogenously. In the organism it undergoes various metabolic reactions through which the neurotransmitter serotonin is first produced and from this, through further steps, melatonin.
Melatonin contributes to the reduction of the time required to fall asleep *.

Hawthorn , Valerian , Passiflora and Griffonia contribute to relaxation; these plants and their extracts represent remedies used in the herbalist tradition to counteract states of agitation in general.

Griffonia is useful for maintaining normal mood by promoting mental well-being, Valerian contributes to relaxation and sleep.

Rhodiola , also known as the arctic root, is characterized by its content of species-specific phenolic glycosides, flavonoids, catechins and tannins. Within the glycoside family, the most representative is salidroside (or rodioloside) which has shown in vitro activity on enzymes that degrade monoamines such as serotonin, noradrenaline and dopamine.

Lactium ^® contains α-casezepine, which is an active decapeptide deriving from milk proteins, typically produced by the newborn during the breastfeeding period, to which, on the basis of current knowledge, the classic sensation of relaxation of the child after feeding seems to be related. After weaning, the ability to synthesize this decapeptide appears to be lost.
