What are berberine AND silymarin AND MONACOLIN
Berberine is a cholesterol-lowering compound with a different mechanism of action than other therapeutic reference drugs. It has a high safety profile and a large degree of tolerability clinically proven and a very long traditional use.
Furthermore, berberine can be used in the treatment of glucose alterations even if not necessarily accompanied by alterations of the lipid profile. Silymarin is a substance extracted from milk thistle, with an antioxidant action that helps to promote regular liver function.
What is Monacolina
Monacolin is a molecule produced by the fermentation of red rice by the yeast Monascus purpureus, with a chemical structure similar to lovostatin, a statin, considered the elective treatment of dyslipidemia and the control of colosterol. Monacolin is used in phytotherapy in the control of cholesterol and in the prevention of dyslipidemia and atherosclerotic lesions.
In Berberol K, a fermented red rice extract with particular phyto-chemical characteristics was used:
• content in Monacolin K and KA (ACTIVE monacolins) standardized to 10 mg in a 1: 1 ratio;
• elimination of non-standardized monacolins;
• elimination of di-hydromonacoline, inactive and potentially toxic;
• total elimination of citrinin, a nephrotoxic substance often present in fermented red rice extracts.
In Berberol K the activity of monacolins K and KA is enhanced by berberine and silymarin.
