Maalox Plus oral suspension 200ml

MAALOX PLUS is an antacid associated with an antimeteoric. It acts against heartburn and against excess air in the intestine.

WHY IT IS USED
MAALOX PLUS is used as an adjuvant in gastric hyperacidity and dyspepsia (reduced digestive activity) due to hyperacidity even in the presence of meteorism (excess air in the intestine).
Symptomatic treatment of heartburn and pain in the stomach and esophagitis (inflammation of the first part of the digestive tract).
Adjuvant in the treatment of gastroduodenal ulcer.

When it should NOT be used
Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients, State of cachexia (state of general deterioration of the body), Patients with porphyria, Severe forms of renal insufficiency, Generally contraindicated in pediatric age.

Which medicines or foods can change the effect of the medicine
Since Al and Mg salts reduce the gastrointestinal absorption of tetracyclines, it is recommended to avoid taking MAALOX PLUS during oral tetracycline therapy.
The use of aluminum-containing antacids can reduce the absorption of drugs such as H2 antagonists, atenolol, cefdinir, cefpodoxime, chloroquine, tetracyclines, diflunisal, digoxin, bisphosphonates, ethambutol, fluoroquinolones, fluoru
sodium, glucocorticoids, indomethacin, isoniazid, ketoconazole, levothyroxine, lincosami, di, metoprolol, phenothiazine neuroleptics, penicillamine, propranolol, rosuvastatin, iron salts.

- Polystyrene sulfonate (Kayexalate)
Caution is advised when the medicinal product is taken together with polystyrene sulphonate (Kayexalate) due to the risk of the resin's reduced efficacy in binding potassium, of metabolic alkalosis in patients with renal impairment (reported with aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide), and intestinal obstruction (reported with
aluminum hydroxide).
- Aluminum hydroxide and citrates can cause an increase in aluminum levels, especially in patients with renal impairment.

Allow at least two hours (4 for fluoroquinolones) before taking MAALOX to avoid interaction with other drugs.
Simultaneous use of quinidine may result in increased serum quinidine levels and lead to quinidine overdose.
The simultaneous use of aluminum hydroxide and citrates can lead to an increase in aluminum levels, particularly in patients with renal insufficiency.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT
MAALOX PLUS, due to its composition, has no tendency to modify the behavior of the hive. However, in some particularly sensitive subjects and for high dosages, it is possible to experience an acceleration of the tr
intestinal wheezing. Do not use for prolonged treatments.
Aluminum hydroxide can cause constipation and an overdose of magnesium salts can cause hypomotility of the intestine; high doses of this medicine may cause or aggravate intestinal obstruction and ileus in patients at higher risk, such as those with renal impairment, with underlying constipation, with impaired bowel motility, in children (0 to 24 months) , or elderly.
Aluminum hydroxide is not well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, and systemic effects are therefore rare in patients with normal renal function. However, excessive doses or long-term use, or even normal doses in patients with low phosphorus diets or children (0 to 24 months), can lead to phosphate elimination (due to an aluminum-phosphate bond) accompanied by an increase in bone resorption and hypercalciuria
(presence of a large amount of calcium in the urine) with risk of osteomalacia.
It is advisable to consult your doctor in case of long-term use or in patients at risk of reduction
abnormal levels of phosphate in the blood. In patients with renal impairment, plasma levels of aluminum and magnesium tend to rise causing hyperalluminaemia (excess aluminum levels in the blood) and
hypermagnesaemia (excess levels of magnesium in the blood).
Prolonged use of the medicinal product should therefore be avoided in such patients.
After a short period of treatment without noticeable results, consult your doctor.
It is advisable to consult the doctor even in cases in which these disorders have occurred in the past.

When can it be used ONLY after consulting your doctor:
In children, if you are pregnant and breastfeeding (see “What to do during pregnancy and breastfeeding”) and in the presence of renal insufficiency (see Precautions for use).

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
Use in cases of real need and under the direct supervision of a doctor. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, MAALOX PLUS should only be used after consulting your doctor and evaluating with him the risk / benefit ratio in your case.
Consult your doctor if you suspect pregnancy or wish to plan a maternity leave.
Due to limited maternal absorption when taken according to the indicated dosage (see section “How to use this medicine”), aluminum hydroxide and its combinations with magnesium salts are considered compatible with breastfeeding.
Effects on ability to drive and use machines.
MAALOX PLUS does not affect the ability to drive or use machines.

HOW TO USE
Oral suspension: ingest 2-4 teaspoons or 1-2 sachets of oral suspension 4 times a day, 20-60 minutes after meals and at bedtime. It can be diluted in water or milk.
Shake well before use.

Attention:
do not exceed the indicated doses.
Consult your doctor if the disorder occurs repeatedly or if you notice any recent change in its characteristics.

use only for short periods of treatment.
Administration of the medicinal product in children is not recommended.

methylcellulose, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, carmellose, hydroxypropylcellulose, citric acid, sodium saccharin, 70% sorbitol solution, lemon flavor, Swiss cream flavor, purified water.
