WARNINGS
Mucolytics can induce bronchial obstruction in children less than 2 years of age. In fact, the drainage capacity of the bronchial mucus is limited in this age group, due to the physiological characteristics of the respiratory tract. They should therefore not be used in children younger 'less than 2 years. Caution is advised in elderly patients, those with a history of gastroduodenal ulcers, or those taking medications known to cause gastrointestinal bleeding. Patients should discontinue carbocysteine treatment in case of gastrointestinal bleeding. Syrup with sugar contains sucrose. The daily dosage of 3 teaspoons per day (equal to 15 ml of syrup) provides 10.5 g of sucrose, while the dosage of 2 teaspoons per day (equal to 10 ml of syrup) provides 7 g of sucrose. Patients with hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, sucrase-isomerase enzyme deficiency should not take this medicine. The sugar-free syrup contains polyols (liquid maltitol). The liquid maltitol contained in the sugar-free syrup does not favor the onset of tooth decay. The syrup contains cochineal red A (E 124) which can cause allergic reactions; contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate which can cause allergic reactions (including delayed). In case of a low sodium diet, it should be noted that the recommended dose of 5 ml of syrup contains about 13 mg of sodium.

INTERACTIONS
At the present state of knowledge, there are no known incompatibilities between the administration of carbocysteine and the more common drugs used in the treatment of upper and lower respiratory tract diseases, with food or laboratory tests.
