KATARFLUID 5 G / 100 ML ADULTS ORAL SOLUTION

PHARMACOTHERAPEUTIC CATEGORY
Expectorants, excluding associations with antitussives.

ACTIVE PRINCIPLES
Carbocysteine 5 g.

EXCIPIENTS
Sodium citrate; methyl sodium p-hydroxybenzoate; sodium propyl p-hydroxybenzoate; sodium hydroxide; sorbitol sol. 70%; banana flavor; purified water.

INDICATIONS
Mucolytic, fluidifying in acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory system.

CONTRAINDICATIONS / SECONDARY EFFECT
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients; gastroduodenal ulcer; the drug is contraindicated in children younger than 2 years; pregnancy and breastfeeding.

DOSAGE
Adults: 2-3 tablespoons per day. These doses can be increased by medical judgment.

STORAGE
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees C.

WARNINGS
Mucolytics can induce bronchial obstruction in children less than 2 years of age. In fact, the drainage capacity of the bronchial mucus is limited in this age group, due to the physiological characteristics of the respiratory tract. They should therefore not be used in children younger 'less than 2 years. This medicine contains sorbitol therefore patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance should not take this medicine. This medicine contains methyl sodium p-hydroxybenzoate and propyl sodium p-hydroxybenzoate therefore it can cause allergic reactions (even delayed).

INTERACTIONS
At the present state of knowledge, there is no known incompatibility between the administration of carbocysteine and the more common drugs for use in the treatment of upper and lower respiratory tract diseases, nor with food.

SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness, gastralgia, nausea, diarrhea may occur. In such cases it is advisable to reduce the dosage. In addition, allergic skin rashes and anaphylactic reactions, fixed erythema may occur. Bronchial obstruction may also occur with unknown frequency. In such cases, discontinue treatment and institute appropriate therapy.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
Although the active ingredient is neither teratogenic nor mutagenic and has not shown negative effects on reproductive function in animals, no data are available on its use in human pregnancy. Therefore, the use of the medicine is contraindicated in pregnancy. Since no data are available on the passage of carbocysteine in breast milk, the use of the drug is contraindicated during breastfeeding.
