PROTOCOLS OF USE FOR THE TREATMENT OF CHOLESTEROL

The Sanedia Scientific Committee has prepared two different protocols of use for the treatment, in outpatient practice, of subjects with high levels of total cholesterol. The protocols are differentiated according to the patient's starting situation and differ in dosage and duration of treatment.

The protocol of use provides for the intake of Colestesan and Epatrend.

1..Protocol for use for patients with a high level of total cholesterol, already in therapy with Statins
The patient has total cholesterol levels above 220 mg / l and is being treated with statins (10-20 mg per day)

The treatment involves the following stages:

Week 1 : the patient must continue to take statins with the same dosage of the current therapy and accompany him with a depurative therapy based on the intake of Epatrend: 2 tablets per day during lunch and dinner Week 2 : the patient must halve the dose of statin, continue taking Epatrend as in the first week (2 tablets per day) and start taking 1 tablet per day of Colestesan Week 3 and 4 : the patient must stop taking the statin, continue with Epatrend ( 2 tablets per day) and take 2 tablets per day of Colestesan Week 5 up to the 16th : in the three months of treatment the patient must always take 2 tablets per day of Colestesan while the Epatrend is suspended.

If the control test shows a cholesterol that has returned below 210 (without statins), a maintenance therapy is recommended by taking 1 tablet of Colestesan per day. Otherwise, the phase 4 dosage should be maintained for another month and the blood test repeated.

Prescription : for the 16 weeks of treatment it is necessary to prescribe:

2 packs of 30 tablets of Epatrend 5 packs of 45 tablets of Colestesan

For maintenance, 1 box of Colestesan is needed every 1.5 months.

2..Protocol for use for patients with elevated cholesterol levels but not on statin therapy

The Patient has high cholesterol levels but in any case lower than 220 mg / l and is not treated with statins (or if he is, he takes very low doses <10 mg / day)

The treatment involves the following stages:

Week 1 : the patient begins a purifying therapy based on the intake of Epatrend: 2 tablets per day during lunch and dinner. Week 2 : the patient must continue taking Epatrend as in the first week (2 tablets per day) and start taking 2 tablets per day of Colestesan Week 3 until the 16th : the patient must take 2 tablets per day of Colestesan

If the control exam shows a cholesterol that has returned below 210, a maintenance therapy is recommended by taking 1 tablet of Colestesan per day for six months. Otherwise, the posology of step 3 it must be kept for another month and the blood test repeated.

Prescription : for the 16 weeks of treatment it is necessary to prescribe:

1 packs of 30 tablets of Epatrend 5 packs of 45 tablets of Colestesan

For maintenance, 1 box of Colestesan is needed every 1.5 months.

Medical notes

The two proposed use protocols have demonstrated their efficacy, in outpatient practice, for the treatment of patients with high cholesterol levels. This action is due to the inhibitory action of fermented red rice (Monascus purpureus) and to the synergistic action of other plants such as artichoke (Cynara scolymus), sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum, Policosanol) and maritime pine (Pinus pinaster ).

The main advantage over statin-based pharmacological therapies is that these products did NOT show side effects on the muscles with deterioration of the muscle cells.

Product Notes

The Epatrend Food Supplement is available in packs of 30 tablets. The Colestesan Food Supplement is available in packs of 45 tablets.
