INDICATIONS Decongestant in nasal, paranasal and nasopharyngeal inflammatory processes.
CONTRAINDICATIONS / SECONDARY EFFECT Hypersensitivity to the components of the product. Chronic rhinitis. Severe heart disease and high blood pressure. Hyperthyroidism. Glaucoma. Prostatic hypertrophy. The drug is contraindicated in children younger than 12 years. Do not administer during or in the two weeks following monoamine oxidase inhibitor therapy. Do not take orally. Do not use for more than four consecutive days.
DOSAGE Solution drops: three to four drops for endo-nasal instillations, two or three times a day. For nasal and pharyngeal aerosol: dilute one part of the solution in two parts of distilled water. Nebulized solution: three intra-nasal nebulizations, two or three times a day. Strictly adhere to the recommended doses. A higher dosage of the product even if taken topically and for a short period of time can give rise to serious systemic effects.
WARNINGS The product, if accidentally ingested, can cause toxic phenomena. Keep out of the reach and sight of children. In patients with cardiovascular disease, and especially in hypertensive patients, the use of nasal decongestants should be subject to the judgment of the physician. The prolonged use of vasoconstrictors can alter the normal function of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses, also inducing addiction to the drug. The repetition of applications for long periods of time can be harmful. Therefore, if favorable results are not appreciated within a few days of starting treatment, discontinue use of the preparation and consult your doctor. Rebound congestion is frequent with the use of nasal decongestants, and can lead, in a vicious circle, to excessive use of the product: therefore, strictly adhere to the recommended doses. Cases of overdose are more frequent and more severe in children. Particular caution should be taken in children, the elderly and women in the first months of pregnancy. Children and sensitive people should be given the preparation at a concentration of 0.50 per thousand, adding three parts of water to one part of Rino Naftazolina. For those who carry out sporting activities: the use of the drug without therapeutic necessity constitutes doping and can in any case determine positive anti-doping tests.
INTERACTIONS They are not known.
SIDE EFFECTS The product can locally cause phenomena of intolerance or rebound mucous congestion. For high-dose treatments or for prolonged therapies beyond four days, the absorption of naphazoline through the inflamed mucous membranes can cause systemic effects consisting of arterial hypertension, reflex bradycardia, headache, disturbed urination. In the event of an overdose, as in the case of accidental oral intake, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, chest tightness, severe headache and, in children, hypothermia, central nervous system depression with marked sedation occur, symptoms which require application of adequate urgency measures.
PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING Particular caution in the use of the product must be adopted during the first months of pregnancy and during the lactation period.
