Widely used in herbal medicine, it is known for its antispathic action which does not reduce normal intestinal peristalsis, so much so as to reduce the transit and formation of gas. The active principle is represented by its essential oil. Its prokinetic and antispastic action finds application especially in spastic states, flatulence, constipation, dyspepsia, hiatal hernia.

expulsion of toxins from the body. It also has a stomachic, carminative and balsamic action against coughs and colds.
